# Brazosport Fishing Calendar.

What's biting around Freeport, month by month. Inshore stays reliable year-round; the offshore season peaks in summer when red snapper opens June 1.

Each season has its targets. [Redfish](/species/redfish/) hold in the bays all year, with a strong fall run. [Speckled trout](/species/speckled-trout/) fish best in spring and fall. [Cobia](/species/cobia/) stack near the jetties in spring, [red snapper](/species/red-snapper/) drives the summer offshore season, and [flounder](/species/flounder/) [gigging season](/guides/flounder-regs-gigging-texas/) takes over in the fall, before the [November flounder closure](/guides/flounder-regs-gigging-texas/) shuts harvest down from November 1 to December 14. The calendar tells you what is in town, but the day-to-day bite turns on tide, wind, and [water clarity](/fishing-spots/surfside-beach/#how-to-fish-surfside-jetty): green, clean water turns the jetty and nearshore bite on, and off-color water shuts it down.
