What's biting around Freeport, month by month. Inshore stays reliable year-round; the offshore season peaks in summer when red snapper opens June 1.
Each season has its targets. Redfish hold in the bays all year, with a strong fall run. Speckled trout fish best in spring and fall. Cobia stack near the jetties in spring, red snapper drives the summer offshore season, and flounder gigging season takes over in the fall, before the November flounder closure shuts harvest down from November 1 to December 14. The calendar tells you what is in town, but the day-to-day bite turns on tide, wind, and water clarity: green, clean water turns the jetty and nearshore bite on, and off-color water shuts it down.
